It's What You Let In That Counts

Good morning,
It’s what you let in that counts.
That’s true in every area of life, but especially right now.
We live in a loud world.
- Constant noise.
- Constant opinions.
- Constant input.
One of the reasons I love my noise-canceling headphones is simple:
THEY LET ME FOCUS.
And honestly, that’s what most of us need in life, a big pair of mental noise-canceling headphones.
There’s an old song from my childhood that goes:
Be careful little eyes what you see.
Be careful little ears what you hear.
If I were updating it for today, I’d add this line:
Be careful little mind what you think.
Because what you let in shapes who you become.
That’s true mentally. And it’s true physically.
When it comes to food, your body can only be made from what you put into it.
- You don’t get strength from garbage.
- You don’t get clarity from junk.
Don’t become a walking garbage can - physically or mentally.
In Philippians 4:8 it says,
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things.
I use the acronym NRPLAEP to remember this and to filter thoughts through it.
True goes with out saying, but then, is the thing:
- Noble
- Right
- Pure
- Lovely
- Admirable
- Excellent
- Praiseworthy
If a thought doesn't pass this filter, I send it on its way.
We should make a separate acronym for the foods we eat, no?
