Fires, Hurricanes & The Storms Of Life

It was a wild week for me.

As we approach the completion of our our kitchen construction project and hope to fire the burners soon, a fire approached our property and we nearly had to evacuate.

Out in the Pacific at Ice Age HQ2, Hurricane Lala is spinning strong and passes near Kaua'i today.

Yesterday, I listened to a sermon by Dr. Chuck Swindoll where he said, "there's not one person listening to my voice who isn't facing an impossible situation today." 

It reminded me that I'm not the only one who faces "the storms of life". While I seem to be a storm chaser, I know that each one of you are facing some difficulty that you wish weren't there. 

I also listened to a sermon by Dr. David Jeremiah where he talked about Charles Haddon Spurgeon. 

He said Spurgeon is the most published human in history - more published than anyone else by far.

He went on to say that Spurgeon battled intense bouts of depression and was even bedridden for weeks at a time with financial worry.

Really?

It was such a surprise to me to hear that. But I am continually reminded that God uses the weak things of the world to confound the strong, and the foolish things to confound the wise.

So, I send you this reminder today:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

Paul goes on to say that he “delights in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (12:10)

Wherever God has you today, my prayer is that you would delight in it.

Take your thoughts captive, pray continually and find joy in tribulation.

Through fires and hurricanes and the storms of life, may your joy be proof that a burden is also there...
