How Did You Get There? I RAN!

How Did You Get There? I RAN!
How Did You Get There? I RAN!

I recommend setting big goals and going for them. Studies show that our mind has infinite capability and that in a human lifetime, it is impossible for a person to reach their full potential. When you do go for big things, you will run into challenges. It’s just the way things go. Today, I want to share my advice for persevering when times are tough. I use the acronym RAN.

R = Righteousness

Seek righteousness. This simply means to do what is right and just and fair. We all have a moral compass and it is our goal to align it with true north. My buddy, Oswald Chambers, says, “we must be more moral than the most moral person we know”. Good challenge, right? In order to seek righteousness, I get up each morning, read the Proverbs of the day (which talk a lot about doing what is right), read My Utmost For His Highest, and then journal about the previous day, the plan for the current day, things I’m grateful for and how I might become a better human! One of my favorite verses regarding righteousness is: The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. - Proverbs 4:18

A = Anchor Routine

You need an anchor routine. Think of the word anchor and what it stands for. It helps keep a ship in place and it helps hold a ship in safety during a storm. I described a bit of my anchor routine above, but there is more to it. The routine is meant to hold you on course when things get difficult. Other things include waking up early so I have quiet time to seek righteousness, drinking water to stay hydrated, eating well, exercising, and spending time with my family away from screens. I usually sit in the hot tub every day and I like cold showers/plunges to keep my mind fresh. Also, don’t forget to brush your teeth!

N = Never Give Up

We’ve all heard this one, but it needs to be repeated daily. Giving up is only an option when you consider it one. Life will throw you curveballs, it will build roadblocks, it will present unimaginable challenges. When these things happen, make sure that part of your anchor routine is to remind yourself to never give up. I use this advice in my own life every day and believe that if you are not being tempted to give up, then you might not be dreaming big enough! I encourage you today to dream big and remember that dreams come true!

Paleo Nick
