SPENDING BILLIONS ON SOMETHING OUR BODIES DO NOT NEED?!
November 03 2021 – Nick Massie
The sugar train is boarding!
It's that time of year again …
From Halloween through the New Year, it seems like sugar is everywhere we turn.
Television commercials, magazine photos, and of course in every break-room in America!
Since we just celebrated Halloween, it made me want to research this exact topic!
And guess what?
According to the National Retail Federation, Halloween candy spending hit about $3 billion this year, which is 20% more than last year's $2.4 billion and 10% more than the previous all-time high of $2.7 billion in 2017.
THINK ABOUT THAT!!! WE ARE SPENDING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON SOMETHING THAT HAS ZERO NUTRITIONAL VALUE AND PROVIDES ZERO BENEFIT TO OUR BODIES! WE DO NOT NEED SUGAR TO LIVE AND THRIVE!
Just think about what else that money could be used for - initiatives to save the planet, education grants, gardens for underserved neighborhoods, and community centers for kids - instead of adding to the nationwide problem of sugar reliance.
People add it to everything these days - drinks, meals, coffees, desserts - everything.
At IAM, we pride ourselves on this simple truth - no added sugar!
And once you train your tastebuds not to rely on added sugar, you will be shocked how you don't even miss it. You may even be surprised by how much your moods level out (in a good way) since you don't have sugar spikes and sugar lows.
I would love to see everyone hand out apples and protein bars and stickers instead of candy bars at Halloween in my perfect world. Yes, it would be rough for those first few years because everyone would be expecting candy, but we would all be conditioned to expect healthy food options on Halloween by year three. And then we apply this rule to every holiday.
Just think about the positive impact that would make on the next generation and the generation after that. Diabetes, obesity - all of it would begin to decrease. People would live longer. Teeth would be healthier. The skin would be more radiant. Hair would be thicker. Doctor visits would decline. Insurance costs would go down because fewer people would be visiting the hospital or be bound to lifelong medication.
This dream of mine may never happen, but at least I can sleep at night knowing I am doing my part to make this world a healthier place. To help people reach their fitness potential, by NOT ADDING SUGAR TO ANY OF OUR 46 MEALS. Cavemen never added sugar, nor do we.
My prayer for you is simple - I want you to live longer.
Your Pal,
Paleo Nick
